Put Gitmo Detainees WHERE?!

Reading the news this morning, came across this article by a former Michigan governor and nearly had a heart attack

That's one way to look at an idea floated recently by former Gov. John Engler to offer the Upper Peninsula, already home to a dozen state prisons, as a place to move the 200 or so enemy combatants and terror suspects now housed in a camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

WHHHHHAAAATTTTT?

Put Gitmo detainees in our backyard? (well ok, it's about a 6 hour drive straight north, but still)

OH HELL NO!!!

Engler throws out the "well it would create jobs" reason for putting homicidal terriorist in our backyard.

The other enticement is the jobs that would be created to build and secure such a facility in the UP, where unemployment is approaching 14%.

I don't know of anybody who is that desperate for a job to allow terrorists into their backyard, not even dumocrats I bet (btw Engler was/is a Republican)

He feels that because the UP of Michigan is so isolated and has rugged terran and lots of snow in the winter flight risks are minimal

In some ways, the UP is an ideal location. The security of a presumably "super max" prison would be enhanced by the region's climate, isolation and rugged terrain. Locals say the few walkaways from UP prison camps during summer months seldom last more than a night on the run because of the bugs. And they don't go anywhere in winter.

Desperate to escape terrorists will not let bugs, snow or rugged terran stop them.

This will not happen with me living in this god forsaken state, this state is not that desperate for jobs or money to allow some of the worlds worst terrorists to live here.

What? For one thing, why take them out of Gitmo just to put them in another prison?? It's all for show, I recognize that, but he must be insane!!!!!

Argghhh.... I don't want them in ANY of our states. :(
