1912 : Bridge to Florida Keys opens


On the day after his acquittal, Preston Tucker celebrated in Chicago, driving one of the few automobiles actually produced in the $28 million ventureFlorida East Coast Railroad opened, running between Key West and the mainland. The railroad closed in 1935. Three years later, the roadway was paved, bringing automotive traffic to the Florida Keys for the first time.
