There is a reason I hate, hate, hate doing contract work.
My contract firm called me an hour ago ...
GM had some budget cuts to make ...
I am part of the budget cuts ...
Yes ...
I just lost my fucking job ...
Again ...
Merry Fucking Christmas to me ...
This was one of the main reason I didn't really want to take a contract job, especially with the way the automotive industry is right now. Contract workers are the first to go.
I was at the fucking job for 2 months, 2 fucking months and they decide now that they need a budget cut.
No, it wasn't anything I did. My contract firm relayed that much information to me.
Do you know how much of a fucking loser I feel like right now?
I have had 3 fucking jobs this year, 3 fucking jobs.
There is no way anyone is going to hire before the new year, so I am off a minimum of 3 weeks. Nobody is even doing any hiring right now because it's the end of the year.
I really can't get much lower than I am right now. I can even keep a fucking job, this from a person who has had nothing but praise in every job I have ever had and now I can't keep a job to save my life.
Posted by Quality Weenie at December 7, 2006 05:41 PM | TrackBackI'm sorry to hear this. I've got a bottle of Jack Daniel's waiting if you need it.
Posted by: Contagion at December 7, 2006 06:19 PMDamn I hate to hear this. All of it. I know you know it's not your fault and I know this what I'm going to say will be like nails on a chalk board - but it's not YOU, it's the times. I know you feel low, believe me, my record is 4 jobs in one year and laid off from the 4th on New Years Eve, anyway - don't blame yourself. It's the main reason I left the industry for consumer products (which isn't all that much better as it works out) all those years ago.
Take tomorrow off. Hit the head hunters and such on Monday. Lay the ground work, but remember it may be the end of the year.
I'm just so damned sorry.
Posted by: Tammi at December 7, 2006 06:35 PMI am so sorry!! I no a percentage of what you feel, but definitely not to that degree!!
Nothing any of us can say can make it better, but make the best of the holiday. Do stuff you couldn't do because of work (maybe go see some family/friends or something if it's not too much of a financial burden). And start hard Jan 1.
And, it may not hurt to put a few resumes out there now. I don't know how your industry is, but I was surprised I got a call after putting my resume in in late November and having interviews in December. They won't hire until January thought....
I am so sorry sweetie!!
Posted by: Sissy at December 7, 2006 06:58 PMI am so very sorry to hear that. My thoughts are with you!
Posted by: oddybobo at December 8, 2006 09:40 AMThat is not nice to do AT the holiday...
not at all
Posted by: armywifetoddlermom at December 8, 2006 09:53 AMVery sorry to hear that! And no, it clearly isn't you.
I'd hire you, but I don't think you'd work for spam sammiches and beer...Contagion might, but I don't think you would...
Posted by: Ogre at December 8, 2006 10:42 AMSorry to hear this. My hubby was just cut down to 32 hrs. a week as of yesterday.
I know that our Daimler Chrysler plant out here took a hit and just cut a bunch of workers as well.
It's the times and not you!
Best wishes in the job hunt :)
Posted by: maranda rites at December 8, 2006 11:58 AMOh no, I'm so terribly sorry, not only that this happened, but that it had to happen to you. Sending positive thoughts your way, I hope that they'll help.
In the meantime, should we send some firemen over with whipped cream and chocolate sauce to at least take your mind off things for a bit? (I hope that gave you a smile at least!)
Posted by: Lee Ann at December 8, 2006 01:11 PMI'm so sorry. What a terrible thing to happen especially during the holidays.
You're right though, it's not you, it's the current business situation of the car companies... that doesn't make you feel any better I know. {{{HUGS}}}

Posted by: vw bug at December 8, 2006 05:01 PMI do contract work. I know where you are coming from in this case. But... it is not you. It is the engineering profession. I am not letting my kids be engineers. We get treated like shit and for as hard as we have to study to get our degrees, they treat us like dimestore employees and i'm pretty fucking sick of it to be honest. My company is having a massive lay off right now too. And then of course you know I might lose my job at the end of the year. Verdict is out on that still...
It is time for you and I to get out of automotive and aer-ospace...
Posted by: Bou at December 11, 2006 07:51 AMWow - I'm sorry to hear that.
Too bad you didn't have an inkling of what was to come. It would have made the "Teambuilding" exercises so much more... interesting.
And what the hell is up with that, anyway? They send you to said "Teambuilding" right before canning you?! Really, what kind of effing crap is that?
Well as they say, 'nature abhors a vacuum', so something better will come your way to take its place. That, or lightning may soon strike your Electrolux... Just don't be the one holding-on to it when it happens (which is why I make the kids do the vacuuming!)
Heh. ;o)
