Nicknames

Over at Blogsis, Boudicca's she has a post up about a new nickname she had been given at work.

Working in manland gives one an insite into men that most women never get a glimps of. And once you have obtained a nickname from the men in manland that means you have been accepted into their fold. Your truely one of the guys.

For the past 12 years I have worked in a male dominated field and have gotten way to good of a look into manland. It's not pretty by any means.

And yes, I have gotten a couple nicknames.

My most recent one, Quality Goddess. I kind of liked that one and it was used often, usually in front of customers, which got a chuckle out of the customers.

My other one at work (ok former place of work) wasn't one that was repeated often, usually only used inside that small circle of men I worked with daily.

They called my PB, Power Bitch. But it was used in a nice way.

So Bou, you shoud feel honored to be given a nickname. It means you have made it into manland, a land that not many women have gotten into.

AHM was in a sort of a male-dominated field, and was one of only two women in the local office. The men were amazingly computer illiterate and since she knew a few "tricks," they gave her the nickname "Gizmo." She never could decide if that was good or bad.

It's no picnic for a lone guy in a female dominated office either (just read Contagion's blog for examples).

Personally, I'm almost glad I work on a shop floor instead of an office(and there are plenty of women, some in lead positions, doing setups and such).

Except for that whole payscale thing...

It's called the "He-Man Woman Haters Club" for a reason, you know... ;)

I've worked exclusively with men for 18 years and never had I gotten a nickname. Well, not that I was aware of. Now I'm Skippy. I'm hoping it doesn't stick.

Good Grief.
