The Dodge Magnum may have revived the station wagon in American minds, and its chopped and channelled look sets a tone for hard-edged performance. But until now, the Magnum has had to wait while the Chrysler 300C SRT-8 sedan has stolen all the big HEMI-charged performance thunder. All that changes when Chrysler shows off the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 at the L.A. Auto Show. Last summer, Trevor Creed, Chrysler's vice president of Design, said that the Magnum begged for a lot of power and SRT handling. It gets it in the form of the 6.1-liter HEMI, a version of the 5.7-liter engine that sports 85 more horsepower than the "base" HEMI. The SRT8 should be able to do 0-60 mph runs in just 5 seconds and 60-0 mph braking in approximately 110 feet. Chrysler also is showing a new Viper coupe at the L.A. show with a hardtop roof and the same 500-hp V-10.
