Ford to overhaul Mercury Mountaineer

Ford Motor Co. plans to substantially overhaul its Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer sport utility vehicles for model year 2006, but it won't be a total ground-up redesign.

Due out in the fall of 2005, the '06 Mountaineer gets a brand-new interior with lots of contemporary styling touches and additional features to further distinguish it from its Ford-badged sibling.

On the outside, the '06 Mountaineer will carry over much of its existing sheet metal, but it will get a fresh face and tail, including restyled grille, hood, bumpers, head and tail lamps.
